way_cooler_than_him and Mr. Danger

I want to address you two first. You both made mention to this year's McGwire vote impacting how people will or won't vote for Bonds, Palmeiro, Sosa, etc...

No offense, but that's B.S.

McGwire isn't in the same boat as Barry Bonds or even Palmeiro as a ballplayer. Same goes for Sammy. Both Sammy and McGwire were great for baseball when it needed a shot in the arm (pun intended) but that's it. Neither has Hall of Fame numbers in any category except home runs and ask Dave Kingman, that's not enough.

Bonds has always been a great player and had Hall of Fame numbers long before anyone thought he was juicing. Palmeiro, love him or hate him has all the important numbers 500 HR and 3000 hits. Based on statistics and how he was a person he belongs in the Hall of Fame. The only thing clouding him is one test performed at the tail end of his career? Does that completely diminish an entire career? I don't think so and by the way...McGwire/Sosa/Bonds have never failed a test for steroids.
-------------------

To the question at hand. As has been stated Gwynn and Ripken are locks. After that Blyleven and Rice are probably the most deserving with Dawson and Trammell being next in line and a borderline option (b/c it seems no one wants to vote him in) is Goose Gossage.

It's a helluva Hall of Fame class with tons of classy guys who have no shot -- Paul O'Neil and Scott Brosius and some guys who shouldn't be on a Hall of Fame ballot -- Dante Bichette and Jose Canseco.

But overall, it's a great class with tons of talent and whether McGwire makes it or not (I think he will...just not first ballot) doesn't matter, what does matter is that two incredible gamers like Gwynn and Ripken get the recognition they deserve.

Definitely Ripken and Gwynn, hopefully Gossage.
This vote is going to act as a bellwether on how the voters feel about steroid users. If McGwire gets a disproportionally low percentage of votes- say under 10 %- then things will not bode well for the future candidacy's of Bonds, Sosa etc.

Gwynn and Ripken should be unanimous. My heart picks are Bert Blyleven, Goose Gosage and Jim Rice. They all deserve entry they were superstars from a great era of Baseball.

Gywnn and Ripken are no brainers but then beyond that you have several good candidates, who will struggle to get in this year. Next year the biggest first year player to appear will be Tim Raines, so next year expect Bert Blyleven, Goose Goosage and Jim Rice all to get in.

Ripken and Gwynn on the first ballot. IMO McGwire will be pasted over. He will eventually get in, most likely after the steroid question is settled in or out of court and he is provened clean of the allegations.

Ripken and Gwynn will be in. Big Mac should not get in because his Home Run total came via the juice and the juice only. No juice no home runs therefore no HOF

As much as I hate to admit agreeing with a Yankee fan (Ozgard): other than the obvious (Ripken and Gwynn), I like Jim Rice, Goose Goosage, Lee Smith, Bert Blyleven, and Andre Dawson.

The jury will be out on Mark McGwire for a few years and I hope Ron Santo and Gil Hodges eventually get in on the Veterans Ballot.

Ripken and Gwynn are locks for sure. The rest will remain to be seen. You can scratch Mark McGwire.
