California is expensive and far. Try Florida first. Consider CA after that.

I left Philly in 1992 to move to San Diego, and I never looked back.

Once you get here, and especially after you spend your first winter here and all your friends in Philly are telling you about the 8 inches of snow and 15 degrees below zero temps, while you're sitting on the beach in shorts and a tee drinking an Ice Cold beer (Yes you can drink on the beach in San Diego) you'll be glad you made that choice.

Such different environments...you can't really compare the two. If glitz and the same sunny weather is important to you, go to Cali, but be warned of the cost of living out there. One should consider family matters before making such a big move, in my opinion.
