For example, this new movie with Hilary Swank, "Freedom Writers" or "Dangerous Minds" with Michelle Phieffer or even "Finding Forrester" with Sean Connery. Does Hollywood think that the only we can be saved is if white people come to our neighborhoods and deliver us from our sins?

To Sir With Love, starring Sidney Potier was a BRITISH movie. Not an American movie. And it was released in 1967. Poor example.
Also, I do recall seeing advertising for another "white teacher saving minority kids" movie with Chandler from Friends. Enough is Enough!

You are so right. The idea of this type of movie is so tired...they're all the same, true story or not. Hollywood isn't very interested in making and promoting the movies that I want to see. I have to wait for Hollyhood to intervene. Nothing against Hilary but I won't be going to see this movie. Hell, I pay so much for cable that I might as well sit at home and wait for HBO to show it anyway.

It's not even about white people coming out and saving people.
It just so happens that the real teacher that the Freedom Writers is based on is white.
I don't see why you're making such a big deal out of this.
Just be happy that someone is going out there and making a difference in teenagers lives.

And yet To Sir With Love was completely the opposite - where a black American teacher came and saved the white English students. Great film, incidentally.

I believe Hollywood loves this story on many levels
First of all , the creativity in hollywood is dying down and they repeat cliche stories.
Second- Expanding roles for minorities in Hollywood. Their idea of inclusion of minorities in hollywood is to bring minorities to play stereotypical roles
Third- They believe this cliche stories are motivational. I personally find them offensive. As a side bar i also find the Pursuit of Happiness cliche and offensive.

Because it HAPPENS in real life....they go and do something that they wont be appreicated for....but they still do it!! It shows that all the racism crap is WAY overrated! But what about the other side of the coin...who has been willing to say go into the mountains of west virginia and teach the underprivledged/poor white kids???
You should be asking why doesnt someone other than the "white people" you blast ...do more and NOT why do these "white people" do what they do!!

I don't know. When I saw the "Freedom Writers" commercial it reminded me a lot of "Dangerous Minds." I think Hollywood just recycles their movie ideas a lot. It's kinda lame though.

Ya know, this is a very good question, and now that I think about it, really plays up to stereotypes.
The truth is there are many non-white teachers who are simply AMAZING but don't get the resources necessary to help inner-city schools or students flourish like most of them could if given the opportunities that middle-class predominantly white schools are given. It's really quite a shame.

I just asked a question similar to this. "Lean on Me" was a great movie. I guess it had too much of an impact to where they had to start using white people in the movies to steer us from thinking that we can turn our selves in the right direction without help from the white man.

You are a racist, paranoid, idiot. To Sir with Love is a great example. So is Lean on Me, Stand and Deliver, 187, and even Sister Act could be in this category. There are others. You should look them up, racist idiot.
