Sorry to disagree with the first two posts - but this is a very stupid question.

Because in a straight guy amnesia won't change his sexual orientation, I am guessing it would be te same thing for a gay guy.
But I'll do some extra researches on this subject.

Yes, of course they would still retain their orientation.
Just as they would retain the ability to read and write, walk, talk, eat with a fork, knife and spoon...etc.
A female with amnesia doesn't suddenly forget she's a girl, or a guy forget they're a guy. A persons hair color doens't change, nor their eye color, or what hand they write with.

Basic skill sets are usually retained even with amnesia.

Interesting question, I have to say yes. I believe sexual orientation is hard wired in the brain. A heterosexual would still be straight if they got amnesia, wouldn't they?

Yes.

His/ her sexual orientation is not something that operates based on memory. When people get amnesia only certian kinds of memories are affected. They still know how to walk and talk, too. ;-)

"A gay." LOL. I love that. It's like using the term "colored." It's amusing when people think that their own backwards notions are "cute."

I'd have to say that yes, he/she would "keep" his/her sexual orientation. I know it's the theory of some that gayness is a disease that can be cured by attending Jesus Camp, but we saw how that idea worked out for Mr Haggard among countless others. I think it's pretty much taken for granted nowadays by everybody outside of a few lingering nutbags that gay is hardwired.

Yes. Amnesia comes in two varieties: retrograde (unable to recall past biographical information, but able to form new memories) and anterograde (able to recall past biographical information, but unable to form new memories). In either case, it is typically declarative memory that is affected, whereas nondeclarative memory (e.g., skill sets and conditioning effects) is preserved.

Therefore, a retrograde amnestic gay man might not recall coming out or any of his past boyfriends. However, he will still find other men sexually attractive.

An anterograde amnestic gay man should be able to recall coming out and his past boyfriends, etc. However, he will not remember that he flirted with that cute male nurse just a few minutes ago, and might do so over and over, believing it to be the first time in every instance.

Yes. Most psychologists believe that sexual orientation is formed before birth, and some even claim they have found a gene for homosexuality. Regardless, sexual orientation is independent of people's experiences and their memories.

Yes...that's like asking if a girl gets amnesia, does she still remember she's a girl...

Pretty sure yeah. It's not a different personality, and sexual orientation ....just, pretty sure it'd stay the same.

Yes. Your orientation is a part of your being, not a memory to be lost or erased.
