Nope they usually keep these things real quiet and try to catch these people and get them back in custody so on one ever knows that it happened.
We have one of these places only about a mile from where we live. Every now and then we see police cars going through our drive way. It connects to two different roads. We also have a friend that works at the asylum. She lets us know what is going on but it never makes the papers or the news.

Depending where it happened, what the person has done after breaking out, to. If it was in New York or California im sure it would be on the news.

I don't think they have such places anymore! and how often do you hear of such a thing in your local news? Pretty rare, right?, so no if it happens they don't tell us -- though they may report a criminal walking away or breaking out of prison and issue warnings, you don't hear if the escapee is criminally insane -- though to be a criminal don't you have to be pretty much insane anyway?

no, it would be in the local paper but would be played down so as not to alarm the public - i have known it not even to reach the local press as the information has been restricted

I'm sure we would hear about it, but I don't think it would be ALL over the news.
