Muslims want to pray in a catholic cathedral in spain even though they have their own mosque their. They have a bloody cheek they dont let women into mosques, and non -muslims are banned from going to the holiest places in Muslim lands such as Mecca and Medina. Yet they think they can come to christian countries and shout the odds, the militant muslims are 75-to 85% of the muslim population and they are inflexible to the western sensibilities. I love the art, science, culture, that europe has developed and i resent being told by these people why, what and where. Europe manages just fine without them they are incapabale of creating a functional, first world civilised enviroment, if you take a look at any muslim country they are all dirt poor and corrupt apart with the ones with oil which they had to be shown what to do with it. Yet they want to come here and tell us how to exist, they need to be expelled back to their own countries.

Texas and capt. You need a history lesson the the 14th century spanish became christian through conversion. These are north african muslim immigrants who have nothing in common with modern day spain. Lets get this right their culture is the anthesisis of ours the 2 are at odds and are inconceviable a christian organisation would be tolerated in say Saudi\Iran ect.

As always, somehow some people make out the Muslims are so hard done by. What does it matter if the cathedral was once a mosque? It isn't now. I know what I would be told if I wanted to hold a Christian service in any of the mosques in the middle east that used to be churches. And ask the Jews about their holiest place, the temple of Solomon, now a mosque. They have to stand outside because they are not allowed in.

It is a constant double standard. During the first Iraqi war, when western troops liberated Kuwait, they had many problems. They were not allowed to take a bible into the Islamic countries. The Arabs tried to stop their chaplains going and tried to ban services. At the same time, Muslims in Britain were demanding that the blasphemy laws in the UK be changed to protect Islam. So, maybe when they are prepared to give some, the west should give some. But, what is sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander.

It concerns me that modern day Christian countries are expected to be so flexible regarding the conduct of a whole variety of other religions but I am yet to find an Islamic country who is tolerant of Christians. I wonder if there are as many Christian Churches in Islamic countries as there are mosques in the UK?

I don't mind muslims, I live and let live, but I do mind that they are deluded enough to think they are going to convert us all and that they want it all their own way, all the time - I've just read one of your postees comments about his claims of the so many converting to Islam - he quotes 2 big names in the US - well 2 people will really make an impact won't they!

I also want to say that those Muslims that we mostly hear and read about who make constant demands are the extremists - they are not the moderates by any means. I think its important to keep that in perspective. I will never feel that the UK is anything other than Christian, despite what fundamentalists believe in their small evil minds!

I say it's ok, but I'd ask that Christians be allowed to pray in mosques anywhere in North Africa, the Middle East, and Asia Minor (basically any place where Muslims invaded and massacred or forcibly converted all the Christians.) Maybe start with the Hagia Sophia, a museum/mosque that USED to be a church in Istanbul, which USED to be known as the Christian city of Constantinople.

It's funny, but I don't think it's going to happen. It's interesting how tolerance is expected from us but never reciprocated. I'm more than willing to forgive, forget, and leave the past in the past, but if Muslims wish to keep a running score of wrongdoings, I'm sure they'll find that they did more victimizing than they were the victims.

People from all over the world migrate to Canada, US, UK etc because we are more tolerant than the places they are leaving.

It is our fault that we don't demand some level of conformity - our culture is such that we have moved to far to the "politically correct", and we don't want to offend anyone. Even though our sensibilities are offend by their actions, we put up with it. The countries that they left would demand that we, if we immigrated there, conform to their way of life and because we are who we are, we would.

It is a pendulum swing and it is slowly starting to swing back. Not too many years ago, when we immigrated from other countries to these, we brought with us, our traditions and religious beliefs. To some degree we still do this when we "send" missionaries into developing nations and "help" by setting up churches - not churches of the religion in the area but ours and we lure those residents to conform to our religions with "bribes" of food and clothing.

It will not be long before the swing will be complete and we will force others to conform, then the swing will start back.

It is a vicious cycle.

Barry you little bawbag shut your face. Europeans who convert to be muslims cease to be europeans. They have sold their birthright which is their choice but at the same time they will not impinge on western society. By setting themselves apart we will judge them by their new set of standards so they can go the whole hog and move to Iran. Anna you need a history lesson as you should realise that muslims are backward and dont like women having rights so pray that you live in a christian country and be grateful for it

I agree that demanding the right to conduct Muslim prayers in a Catholic church is extremely cheeky and in very poor taste. Surely they can pray anywhere else, including their own religious centers? Probably there's some socio-political agenda involved... they seem determined to make Islam the one-world religion to the exclusion of all others. I hope the officials in that city stand up for the rights of the Catholics.

Spain is now a catholic country, How are they going to split this cathedral in two for both communities to pray in. Multiculturalism who needs it? Are catholics expected to take footwear off? Most muslim countries are still in the middle ages and woman are second class human beings. I totally agree with a lot of comments made and so do many normal people!

this is just another example of Muslims looking to stirr up trouble.
This has been a church for around 600 years and the place is more of a tourist site than anything.

now, more and more muslims are arriving in spain with the religious freedoms they have been given.

i have no problem with this place becoming a place of prayer for muslims, but then muslims should also refer to the religious intolerance they subject minority groups to in their countries.
Of course, this will be described as islamophobic though.

"like the Muslims did Christians" What do you mean approximately this? Are you asserting which you will circulate to a Mosque and pray? or maybe you're speaking relating to the parable of the non violent Al-Andalus, whilst it became definitely an apartheid equipment?

I agree in part with you in the sense that no one should be able to come into a holy place of worship and pray in another faith. Yes they should use their own Mosque as this is specifically for their religion.
But I think we should all be allowed to go to what country we chose and live where and how we want as long as it is within the constraints of the law of that country, no one should be allowed to come to another country and demand the host country to change their laws, where is the democracy in that.
