What good would it do if no one knew? He's just a man; his power is in his followers. Sure, you could kill him, but it wouldn't bring back those who died, and it would only make him a martyr to his cause. If no one knew what happened to him, then it wouldn't matter whether you had captured him or not; his followers would assume he was still out there, outwitting the US at every turn; meanwhile there are plenty of others who can plan and execute new attacks. And if you locked him up and let everyone know, you would start seeing suicide attacks every day, at every US embassy abroad as well as on US soil, from every Islamic terrorist organization demanding his release.
The way to break his power would be to put him in a suit and make him punch a clock every day, working for an American company and pursuing the American dream. That would show his legions that he's just a regular guy, not a prophet. Better yet, make him do TV commercials for Exxon Mobile, and air them on al-Jazeera. His organization would be crushed, their faith broken and with it their willingness to die for their cause.

I would try to interview him to find out what his real motivation of hatred of the United States is, then I would ask him which government he would prefer to be turned over to.
