I've had pet rats for years now, but only now has one of my current rats started to gently nip me. I know that when rats are scared or angry they will nip more aggressively, but Devon never hurts... she just sort of softly bites. I've looked around on the net, but there doesn't seem to be any information on it. I'm wondering if it's an affectionate or dominant thing, or something else altogether.

Rats will often nibble to "groom" you and it is a sign of affection, they also will ocassionally nip just to see what you are after having smelled you and sometimes just to let you know that she dosent like what you are doing.

Yes its because shes dominant! I've had rats also but mine had this problem even after i had him fixed i guess they just have this dominant gene im not really sure but I've heard some rats can be extremely dominant some can be sweet and some can just be plain out crazy ha. I have mice now and i had to separate them because one would bite the other. My vet said getting them fixed wont help much dominant will always be dominant .
ps. if you don't think this is a dominant thing maybe you should check out his sight rats can only see strait in front of them if you come at them from an angle they may be frightend or think your giving her food. You might wanna test comming at him slow and strait in front of her and see if she snaps.

Rats are disgusting infestations that need to be permanently exterminated. Ive had bad experiences with rats in my house, they break in through the walls and piss and $h*t eveywhere. I had to throw away a new couch and love seat cause the rat $h*t all insde of them. KILL ALL THE RATS...!
