I live in a medium size northeastern city in the us, I send checks to pay my bills in state, to neighboring states to the south and also to the west .... How many days will it normally take for the USPS to deliver these various envelopes?

It depends when you drop off your mail and when it was picked up by the postal worker. It takes about 2 business days for mail sent in your state, and any where from 3-5 business days in the other states.

If they're neighboring states, a day -- two at the most. Cross-country (i.e. New York to L.A.) takes three to four.
