Not sure why this is even a discussion point. I mean, yeah he scored 81 points in a game, but he has far less competition than Jordan. I mean really, who out there can even compete with Kobe? Jordan had to battle dominant players like Starks. Jordan played baseball better than Kobe plays basketball. I once saw Jordan jump over the backboard into the upper tier at MSG. In addition, Jordan has a cologne. You know why Kobe doesn't have a cologne? Because nobody wants to smell like a whiny cry-baby. And the list continues- Jordan was a disadvantage because he had to play college ball. He had to play against brillant coaches like The General and that UNLV guy who chews his towel. That takes its toll. Kobe on the other hand, only had to play against school mates until he joined the NBA after the sixth grade. These kids were no good. I mean you know Kobe has no street credit. Also, Kobe gets all the calls. He gets away with Murder. The refs never favored Jordan! BE LIKE MIKE!

First of all i would like to say that all that is said above is I TOTALLY AGREE WITH! I was at the game When MJ jumped into the upper tier, and contrary to popular belief Donnie baseball was not the first to eat some of a little kids popcorn, MJ ate mine first . I'd also like to say that when it comes to competition Jordin had to play against Wilt the Stilt and Earl the Pearl, guys with cool nicknames that rymed, not the flash, or the answer. Kobe changed his number this year but he should have changed it to number 2 because that is what his game smells like. Jordin also even won a basketball game in a cartoon, a la Space Jam, and even believed he could fly according to R. Kelly !!!In the end i will never stop wearing my hanes, eating ball parks or drinking gatorade because of my favorite player Micheal Jordin!!!!!!!

People who really understand basketball would understand that Kobe is Jordan's equal for one reason and one reason alone. He is the only player in the NBA who has mastered the Jordan fadeaway which was Jordan's most deadly move and can't be stopped so the fact that Jordan was a better dunker is very insignificant. There are better dunkers than both of them still in high school who will never make the NBA. Besides that Kobe is still probably as good as D.Wilkins at dunking and I doubt if he could jump from the foul line when he was younger he would have attempted it because 3 other people already won the dunk contest that way by the time Kobe was a rookie. But it's not Kobe's leaping ability that makes him like Jordan anyway it's footwork and the fadeaway combined with the ability to hit pressue shots often. And what do you mean Kobe has no street credit? He's not from the streets why should he just because he's black?

Speaking of street cred...
I was going to let this go, but it had so much BS involved, I just had to respond.

First off, I'm a huge Laker fan, and I don't see why anyone should be comparing Jordan to Kobe. Who are these people comparing MJ to Kobe? Chumps, no doubt. Wannabe's. I don't hear anyone making comparisons on legit sports shows, TV or radio.

However, you seriously lost any credibility when you said "Jordan had to battle dominant players like John Starks". Sheesh. If you had said ANYBODY else... Magic, Bird, Ewing, even Drexler... you might have been believable.

Once you got into the cologne thing, it really went downhill.

"Jordan was at a disadvantage because he had to play college ball". DUH! Do you think playing for Dean Smith (one of the great all-time coaches of college ball) at UNC might have HELPED him?!? And he had to play against Bobby Knight (The General) and Jerry Tarkanian (Tark the Shark). That only made him better! DOUBLE DUH!

Kobe, to his credit, cut his teeth in the NBA. It's a learning experience. You notice he didn't get much playing time at first. It was years before he became a dominant presence. So I suppose you could say Kobe went to the University of NBA.

"The refs never favored Jordan". BULL. (Pun intended) Refs tend to give the stars a little more leeway, especially the classy ones. Kobe gets breaks, too, but to say Jordan never got any is just blowing smoke.

So I like Mike, and I like Kobe. After 10+ years in the NBA, you have to admit that Kobe's great. But he's no Jordan. I don't think anyone will do for the NBA what Michael Jordan did. But putting Kobe down like that just makes you look like a punk.

It's a little early to be comparing the two. Jordan has career numbers and Kobe still has years to go.

The current factor that will separate these two when Kobe retires, where there reputations and how they were remembered as players.

Jordan does not have any negative comments about him other than the poor job he did with managing the Wizards.

Kobe on the other hand has this reputation for being selfish, childish, and arrogant. Kobe really needs to change his image.

First off never mention John Starks as a dominant player ever again. And you're telling me Jordan jumped 20ft in the air OVER the backboard at MSG. AND you're telling me Jordan was better at baseball, in which he couldn't even play in the major leagues, than Kobe is at basketball, in which he's the best in the game today? AND you're saying playing college bball is a disadvantage? The refs NEVER favored Jordan? Remember the "Russell push" ? ONLY MJ gets that no call. This is not a question. This is a chance for you to proclaim your love for Michael Jordan and your lack of consideration of anything not named Michael Jordan. You probably typed this wearing MJ cologne, in an MJ jersey, in an "official" used jockstrap of MJ's from his playing days you bought on ebay. SQUARE.

Sounds like you have no idea what you are talking about. Seems that every time a star emerges in the NBA they are compared to Jordan. Jordan was good and all, but I am sick of hearing his name. And what do you mean there is no competition for Kobe? The competition gets more and more difficult and the years go by. When jordan played there was bird , majic, etc. Now theres d wade, iverson, nowitzki, duncan and the list goes on. not only are the players in the nba "basketball" players, they are athletes. you have to be stronger, faster, more agile, and play smarter than you did back in the day because the competition is that good. Stop comparing jordan to kobe, lebron, d wade, its so annoying. Kobe plays like kobe and lebron plays like lebron. sheeesh!

Umm..obviousman... I think he was kidding. He clearly was exaggerating but his point is correct. Adam is correct. Dwayne Wade has the potential to be as close to Jordan as possible. He has the charisma, the attitude and he gets better every day. Also, he proved in last year's playoffs that, like Jordan, he could take over a game at will with his 4th quarter performances on the biggest stage of his career..the NBA Finals. Plus, his numbers are already better than Kobe's & Jordans stats at the same time in their careers. I can't stand Kobe but his skills are without question. But he lost me with his performance (or lack of) during last year's game 7 playoff series when he only took 3 shots in the 4th quarter to end their cinderella season. Any comparisons between him and Jordan ended right there.

Amen!!

Btw as an after thought I use Jordan cologne, ladies love it.

Kobes a great player but nobodys ever gonna be jordan, and if you want the next guy whose gonna play jordans role (not as well) look no further than Dwayne Wade, he had the same personality type as MJ and is just as Marketable. Hes got the sterling good guy image and thus far in his career is a good role model for children. (No rape cases or crying fits over ball hogging with shaq even thought I hate shaq too)

But yea, while theres never gonna be another Mike, if I had to pick someone out of todays game who is the closest its definitely Wade

Kobe is an surprising participant, yet he isn't on Michael Jordan's point. Kobe has in no way been Jordan's equivalent mentally or athletically. he isn't any distinctive than Tracy McGrady or Gilbert Arenas. they are volume shooters who could be close down while their jumper isn't falling. KOBE isn't UNSTOPPABLE OR the final OFFENSIVE participant OF ALL-TIME!!! IF HE grew to become into UNSTOPPABLE THEN THE PISTONS does no longer have HELD HIM TO 22 PPG ON 38percentFG AND THE CELTICS does no longer have HELD HIM TO 25PPG ON 40percentFG!!! the only NBA gamers who could be considered unstoppable scorers of their primes is Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Wilt Chamberlain, Shaquille O'Neal, and Michael Jordan. Kobe isn't in that classification. he's a guy who takes loads of photos and gets to the foul line to get his factors. Jordan from 1985-1993 HAS NO equivalent, I REPEAT, NO equivalent as a fringe scorer and help defender. 30-35ppg on 50+% taking photos and 3 steals and just about 2 blocks consistent with game back to back seasons. Kobe, or the different perimeter participant, has in no way has the combination of skills and athleticism to try this! Dwyane Wade is the only one to come again near to achieving this, no longer Kobe. Kobe is only corresponding to Jordan from 1996-2003, while Jordan lost loads of athleticism and had an surprising helping solid. MICHAEL JORDAN FROM 1991-1993 gained 3 right now TITLES WITH SCOTTIE PIPPEN, HUSTLE gamers and notice UP SHOOTERS! those communities have been most of the LEAST gifted TO EVER WIN CHAMPIONSHIPS! no longer to show multiple CHAMPIONSHIP! the subsequent ultimate gamers on those communities grew to become into Horace furnish, who ought to no longer create his own shot and had no submit strikes WHAT SO EVER! Jordan or Pippen created EVERTHING for him! He grew to become right into a rebounder and a hustle participant, this is it. Kobe has in no way gained a hoop with out absolute ultimate notch expertise (Shaq, Gasol, Bynum, Odom, Glenn Rice) Michael Jordan has. i ought to bypass on and on, yet i've got already written a e book. only seek the solutions at right here approximately Kobe/Jordan and you will hit upon some years of information battles that ought that might assist you out.

Because the Kobe fanboys are desperate for Kobe to be the best ever for some reason. He's clearly not, and is not even the best current player...But I think the Kobeheads know this and therefore try (futilely) to argue and convince themselves that Kobe is better than he really is.
