George Washington
Teddy Roosevelt
Dwight David Eisenhower
John Kennedy
Jimmy Carter
George Bush

Just a few of the presidents who have fought in wars. I don't know where you got this idea that only poor people are sent to war, but it is incorrect. The United States Military is an all volunteer service and all socio-economic positions are represented in it's ranks.

Our military is all "volunteer". The American Heritage Dictionary defines this word as follows:

NOUN: A person who performs or offers to perform a service voluntarily.

From the officers to the lowliest recruit, they are all volunteers. There is no requirement that they MUST be poor to enlist.

Before you make a generalized statement, check your facts and you will be respected more.

To all who are now serving or have served in the US military, thank you.

Because the Presidents are wealthy and do not need the income. I am not ridiculing your question, because I think that it is a good one. The military has always been a way for the poor to escape poverty. Many have gone on to serve very honorable careers and have earned high honors. I served eight years in the US Army during the Viet Nam era, and most of the enlisted people that I served with came from middle class down to poor families. For me the military was a job when i needed one----a good job. At the time the job market in Houston was very depressed and I need to support myself. The Army was my out. I never killed or hurt anyone, I was decorated for meritorious service, achieved the rank of Staff Sargent and was honorably discharged. Presidents do make mistakes in judgment in wars, but it usually is because they receive bad advice.

surely this could be a extremely new phenomenon...think of back traditionally speaking...Theodore Roosevelt, Eisenhower, JFK, Ford, Regan...all of them served, so i do no longer think of you ought to use generalities like that. additionally, you're doing a similar approximately "sending the undesirable", that may no longer the case. most of the optimal and knowledgeable adult adult males and ladies are there soley with the aid of wanting to help and preserve their usa. possibly you should look at this from a distinctive view factor. i in my opinion understand many that don't believe President Bush, yet they are desperate to do their accountability regardless of him.

Some, like John Kennedy and George H W Bush, should be prosecuted for destruction of government property in time of war. Kennedy was such a poor sailor he let a perfectly good PT boat get run over by a Japanese destroyer, and Bush was such a poor pilot he flew right into Japanese antiaircraft fire and abandoned his plane.

Outrageous, isn't it?

You might be taken more seriously if you use facts instead of meaningless rhetoric.

You have listened to John Kerry way too much.

I'm fighting in Iraq and I have a Master's Degree and I'm not poor in the least. As a matter of fact, many of the soldiers I'm with are in college or have college degrees. We are not all poor. There are people from the entire spectrum of socio-economic backgrounds.

Maybe they do that in whatever country you hail from but the USA has a professional military that's strictly volunteer. That's hardly sending the poor. HERE'S YOUR SIGN!!!

As others have said, you are flat out wrong.

Go read the Heritage Foundation study that shows the military is more educated and from a higher social class than the average American.
