Crying when making a bowel movement and afterwads is definitely normal. Babies on formula tend to have solid BMs and go less frequently than breastfed babies. Although, if your baby's poop is coming out in hard pellets than it might be constipation. I gave a liitle bit of water to my baby to help soften her poop when she was constipated, as recommended by my pediatrician. But check with your doctor. Every doctor is different about water.
Pooping is hard work for them. Thier digestive systems are still adjusting, and they're still figuring out muscle control. Every baby develops differently. Some baby's digestive sytems aren't as mature as others. My baby did the same thing. She is five months now and doing great. She is still very vocal when she poops and that's normal for her.

Usually when a baby drinks formula their bowels arent as soft as if they drink breast milk. You should try massaging the baby's belly clockwise with baby oil a few times a day. That will keep the digestive tract moving and make going potty easier. Formula is very hard on new borns.

It is possible that the formula is making his bowel movements hard. At 7 weeks of age it's not normal to be so hard for him to use. I would take him to see his paediatrician,to see what he or she has to say. And If changing the formula might do the trick.

sounds like he is constipated...are you giving him any rice cereal? if so that sounds like the culprit...babies should not have cereal at this young of an age...and as long as he is still going at least once every three days then really he is fine...we had the same problem with my daughter when she switched form breastfeeding to formula...i called the doctor and she told me that it was normal for babies to be constipated occasionally...and some mom-to-mom advice...if you have to ask if you should call the doctor..just call...better to be safe than sorry..they have nurses there that would be able to calm your nerves and answer any question you may have..back to the question :) i would switch him to a formula that has comfort proteins in it...they are supposed to be easier for their tummys to digest...good luck and enjoy being a mom!! :)

This is COMPLETELY normal...I have a one year old and another on the way ... and hes always fought going to sleep because he is tired... They get to a certain point where theres so much going on around them that they dont want to miss anything... especially if there are new people around or you are out somewhere other than home... I think that at night the easiest thing is to get a routine going so that he is used to it and he doesnt feel like he is missing anything

If your baby's belly is firm or tender when he is at rest you need to go to the doctor immediately. If he is just bearing down to push his stool out and his belly is firm that is different. If he is having that much trouble he needs to see a doctor right away.

If his stool is hard, you should try a different formula or start giving him some water. (you can give a 7 week old water)
I found, with my twins, that my daughter was severely constipated from Prosobee, but my son wasn't.
Each child is different. Don't worry.

yes you need to talk to the dr. at 7 wks bowel movements should still be "messy". It could be your formula, or it could be a bowel problem. Either one is fixable, but you need to check with dr.

There is no "normal" anything when it relates to babies. As long as bub is pooping at least once a day and doesn't seem to be in pain, I wouldn't worry. All babies do that "grunting" and "groaning" when they poop. Yes, their faces turn different colors too and their eyes water. Have you ever looked in the mirror when you poop? I'm sure you look pretty much the same. When you notice him doing this, sit him up in a sitting position and let him poop. A nurse at my babies Dr.'s office told me to do this. I asked her why? she responded, "It is easier for them to go that way, have you ever tried pooping laying down? It's not that easy."
Your bub is fine. Just sit him up when you notice he is pooping. He'll be aaiight!
