If you have a 28 day cycle then you are likely to ovulate around the 14th day after your period. You would want to have sex before during and after this time! Have sex every other day cause everyday will lower his sperm count!

There are a few physical signs that the body gives off when ovulation is occurring. Some common signs to watch out for are:

Tender Breasts: Before and during ovulation your breasts may become more tender than usual, due to the rise in your hormones.

Mittelschmerz: Mittelschmerz is the name given to abdominal pain felt during ovulation. Some women experience sharp twinges in the lower abdomen during the ovulatory phase.

Body Temperature: During ovulation, your basal body temperature (BBT) will increase slightly.

Cervical Changes: Your cervix will change shape, position, and texture during ovulation. It will also produce a different type of cervical mucus.

It's not the right place to prolong here. The talk starts with the scientific constatation that spermatozoa with Y or X chromosome are different. In particular, Spermatozoa with female genetype (X) is greater, slower and with more longevity, while sperms with Y gene is littler, faster and with less longevity.
The method you referred can be achieved thro some simple tests as like as basal temperature and cervical mucus, i.e.
Put some search on web or buy some specific book to learn more about.
An addition on I can give him is to ejaculate as deep as possible having sex before going to sleep mainly.
A lot of people found useful that method (80% is the probability of success), so, since there is no certainty about the future baby gender (no 100% ), you just ought to start with the wish to have another baby independently form its gender (male or female)!!
Good luck!
