There's a site called Zopa which arranges for your own money to be lent to other people wanting to borrow - i.e. no banks are involved.

Try www.prosper.com. They allow you to be either a lender or a borrower for unsecured debt. All of my borrowers are A or AA rated and I'm still bringing in 14.5% on those debts!
