The universe was created by God. Without light it was dark. It remained dark until he created light.
Darkness is simply the absence of light.
Darkness is like ignorance. Knowledge dispels ignorance. Light dispels darkness.
If you walk into a dark room and turn on the light the darkness disappears because it is only yhe absence of light.

Read the first chapter of Genesis for the Christian answer (darkness created when Earth was created). I'm not familiar with other religions.
Scientifically, darkness was not created, it just is.

Darkness wasn't created..it just is. The question you should be asking is who, or what, created light.

Darkness is the lack of light. It's is not a thing and no one created it.
It's like asking who created silence or dryness.

Black is the color of the paint the Umpalumpas used to paint the inside of the sky vault. The stars are just pin holes in the vault that let in light from the outside.
