you sound like j. alfred prufrock.
"And indeed there will be time
To wonder, “Do I dare?” and, “Do I dare?”
Time to turn back and descend the stair,
With a bald spot in the middle of my hair—
[They will say: “How his hair is growing thin!”]
My morning coat, my collar mounting firmly to the chin,
My necktie rich and modest, but asserted by a simple pin—
[They will say: “But how his arms and legs are thin!”]
Do I dare
Disturb the universe?
In a minute there is time
For decisions and revisions which a minute will reverse.
For I have known them all already, known them all:—
Have known the evenings, mornings, afternoons, 50
I have measured out my life with coffee spoons;
I know the voices dying with a dying fall
Beneath the music from a farther room.
So how should I presume?"
LIVE. DREAM. CARPE DIEM.

If you fear that your dreams will never come true, then you will just live in fear. If you hope in a dream (or in anything) then forget about being dissapointed if they do not become reality.
Just have faith in yourself and go on.
What I really believe is that there is no need to dream at all. Do not hope, Do not fear, Be a free man!!!
I mean, do not hope that something will come true, neither fear that something you wish will never not come true... Just have faith in yourself do what you think you should and do not care about the outcome. Just do it!
(No, I am not a Nike sponsor)
Do not fear life, its yours, live it. Do not make dreams or plans, no need to care, just breathe with your lungs full of life and ... - who knows, who even cares...

For me, dreaming is the essence of life. Dreaming and imagination set the the stage for for things we choose to do that have meaning. Sure there can be consequences, but for me, bettter to have followed the path towards something really meaningful and failed than to wonder about never having doone so. ...And who knows, you may achieve your seemingly impossible dream!

WB Yeats wrote the following poem, He wishes for the cloths of heaven.
"Had I the heavens' embroidered cloths,
Enwrought with golden and silver light,
The blue and the dim and the dark cloths
Of night and light and the half light,
I would spread the cloths under your feet:
But I, being poor, have only my dreams:
I have spread my dreams under your feet:
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams."
Be tender to your dreams and take care who you share them with for they are the greatest treasure we sometimes possess and do not know it

We have two types of dreams: One, when sleeping, another is your future ambitions. These two are important to one's life. So, continue to dream about your future.

If u don't have any dreams in life u may as well give up. sometimes it is your dreams that give you that extra spark to try that little bit harder.
