I have a P2 266MHZ desktop, 64mb ram(2 x 32 mb). I wish to upgrade to 128 or 256mb. But how to tell what ram am i using? PC100 or PC133 eg? Or can i totally replace with a 256mb PC133ram and throw away the 64mb. Will it cause any system crash if different rams are installed. Thank you!

You need to check with the manufacturer. They normally sell upgrades.

On these older systems ram is installed in pairs.... So if you have 4 ram slots which most of these computers did, you could problably upgrade to 256mb....

You can use either PC 133 or PC100 ram... The 133 can down-throttle to work with PC100 ram... Done this.... What you want is no-buffered and non-ecc memory... Most likely 72 pin ram....

Check your user manual or manufacturing site to make sure.... Also, most memory sites have a allow you to enter you system and they will tell you what you need... Some sites are listed below:

Good luck....

It is traditionally on a sticker on the piece of RAM itself. If it will not void your warranty to open your computer, I suggest taking a closer look.

And no your computer won't crash, however you may have to change your bios settings to set the proper clockrate of your RAM (Try to keep only one kind of speed in though, so it functions to its fullest.)
