I have always thought of imaginary friends as something in the movies or story books. How can we prove that this is indeed fact or fiction with so little information. Is this an out of body experience, is it reated to Satre's theory on mind and body? Please help me explain the experience. Thanks

My daughter had an imaginary friend when she was 4...some chic named Judy that she talked to while holding a mirror. She knew that her reflection was herself, yet she swore that there was a friend there too....one day when she was 5 she picked up the mirror and said "JUDY....JUDY...Where are you?" as she looked at all possible angles into the mirror search for her friend... After a minute she put the mirror down and announced that Judy left and she never again had that friend...to this day she doesn't remember Judy....

I have no idea how to explain it other than she needed that imaginary friend for a time and when she didn't need it...it was gone. I'm not sure that Satre had it right or not...

I would be curious as to how long someone would have one and at what age it stops if it really does...I don;t remember having one and my parents didn't remember me having one either so I really don't know...all I can say is what I saw with my daughter...my son never did it either...

In its most modest definition that would be described as Schizophrenia.

Imaginary is only so to those apart from the person and "The Friend."

I offer another example however, of how it may relate to more than just children, or adults, devoid of any REAL friends. Assume for a moment, so many people, myself included, that state the presence, seen or not, of a MUSE.

Certainly it's a manifestation born in that part of the brain that does that kind of thing,,, BUT to many of us, "Friend" or not; REAL or assumed/felt, a MUSE can be a very valid part of ones existence.

my imaginary friends were always just imaginary as a kid. They said and did what I imagined.
However I have heard ghost stories about kids who encounter ghosts and have them as friends and then when the kid describes the imaginary friend, they describe someone who has passed on.
I am not sure whether those stories are real or not though.
All I can tell you is mine were 100% imaginary.

Imaginary means just that, in our heads, manifest, and in this case, without reality.

i belive that imaginary friends aren't real but you can have guardian angels. because if you really had a real imaginary friend wouldn't you be able to see it or at least hear it talk to you. so i believe that they are a fictional phenomena.
