The United States and many developed countries are heavily influenced by the media. Body hair is a sign of maturity. Children have no or light colored body hair. As they mature the hair gets darker and courser. Of course youth is highly valued in our society, removing body hair maintains the youthful appearance.

Personally, I think it is up to the individual. If a woman chooses not to shave in the United States, she should be prepared for some disapproval from her peers, but again, it is up to the individual to determine what they are comfortable with.

i think of it is frequently to do with close by custom. interior the united kingdom it is completely suited for a guy to stroll around exhibiting armpit hair. Such actual hair on a female is heavily frowned upon. bypass to France and Belgium, the girls do no longer shave something like as much as English females do. nonetheless, i do no longer understand a single bloke who would not promptly bypass off a woman if she had armpit hair. Legs are distinctive. honest females can get away with out shaving/waxing for longer according to probability.

Someone told me if you don't shave your private area that a male will never put his mouth there.....I found that to be untrue.LOL!!!!

As far as the underarms, I shave that personally for my self and not others. I don't want to walk around with a halter or tank top or shirt with no sleeves and hair is hanging. Plus when the underarm is hairer the deodarant stops working faster, to me.

As for legs, ummmm I don't like hairy legs.

i don't get my eyebrows done though and people seem to ask me who has done them.

i shave it all off just because i feel cleaner when i do. i mean really how clean can you be down there when your peeing and you have all the hair there to catch it. You cant get that clean by a paper towel thing. I preffer to have a body that is free from hair aside from a top my head and my eyebrows. much cleaner that way

I think Americans are a little more hygiene oriented than many other countries, and that is probably a huge part of why American women shave their body hair.

I really couldn't care less and I think WAY too much time is spent shaving. I prefer hair on legs to stubble. I just want the undercarriage to be completely bald, wax bald. When I'm eating, I hate to find hair in my food.

leg and underarm hair is gross. i'm not concerned about the "other" hair so much. although an afro down there would be too much...

to answer the question, i guess it's just how we here have been raised, to dislike the look and feel of hair on women's arms, legs, armpits, etc. i blame society i guess, but i don't necessarily disagree with the trend.

Media media media, got you believing it is the way. THe blade/razor people just love it.
But it does help keep odors away, personally I don't really like a bald chicken.
