I had an imaginary friend who had a pet tortoise. It was between the ages of 4 and 7. They used to visit every night but only when I was asleep. Recently I have been wondering if they could be spirit guides, who knows, but it was so real, and even now I still have the images in my mind of how they were. They could also have been yourself in a past life. I have also started to write a book about the place where I dreamt of and made my 'friends' into characters of the book' it'll be quite some time before I finish it as I'm a busy mum, but I hope to some day.

The term "imaginary" should say it all. Non-existant. People may create imaginary friends maybe because of some trauma in their lives i.e., children usually create imaginary friends.

Wow.
Just talk to people who used to have imaginary friends.
Or go to a day care and do interviews.
I'm pretty sure it's related to the creative developing minds of children who long for someone to relate to.

Some people believe imaginary friends are "Spirit Guides". Other than that its all in the persons head but they genuinly believe the person is there. (More common in young children)

This is a very good question. I always though of "imaginary friends" as a spirit or a ghost maybe.. i dunno? I''ve never had one of those.. but it is kinda scary to know that a kid is talking to someone as if it's real so thats why I always thought it would've been a ghost or something.

you said it already.. its imaginatory... they evolve from your imagination.. little kids have BIG imaginations.. so they create these illusions for themselves so they have something exciting to do.. lol i wouldnt exactly go as far to call it an out of body experience.. its not like you're trying to contact the dead or anything... but i dont know its ok for you to have your own opinion. <3
