Hi there. Almost certainly no wireless capability built in to your desktop. There is a "Wireless Link" icon in "Control Panel", you can check there, but if it IS enabled it will already be telling you so by putting the search icon in your toolbar.
If it is close enough to your router, then attaching it with a cable will be the most sensible approach and maximise eficiency - your router has ports in the back for this specific thing.
If too far away for a cable, then buy a USB wireless connector from somewhere like www.dabs.com - these work as well as most cards ad are SO easy to fit and use! Mine is a 3Com one and is brilliant. All the disks you need will come with the USB wireless connector , so this should be all you need.
Cheers, Steve.

Well first off, you need to make sure if you have a wireless adapter included on that PC's motherboard. If not, you may want to check this out:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16833124115

Next, you want to try and secure that linksys wireless router. You can of course leave it at factory settings, but that is very unsafe. That means that anyone within a few hundred feet of the router will be able to gain access into the network.

If you have any PC directly wired into the router, enter the address into any internet window http://192.168.1.1/

It will ask you for a password and user name:
User: (blank)
Password: admin
These are the default factory settings, but they're all the same for any linksys.

Then you can setup a WEP key http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Ao6Jo_EQuydjTGpafKPjTw0jzKIX?qid=20060824175623AARkqEk

This way, only PC's that are setup with that particular key can access your network, and no one else.

Desktop PCs don't normally come equipped with a wireless network adaptor. You'll need to buy one. There are a few options available to you. You could either buy one that fits into a free PCI slot on your motherboard, or easier still, a USB wireless adaptor, which simply slots into a free USB slot.

Hey, to answer your question about the wireless card in your PC you will need to get an wireless card or wireless USB adapter . Hp sells two models in the stores (7600 series) desktop computers that come with wireless cards in them, if you don;t have one of these, you most likely don't have a wireless card in your machine. You can go to any local retailer's website or store and look for USB wireless adapters

I would recommend you buy a wireless adaptor of the same make you are using in your laptop (use the same settings) connected by a usb2 socket on your PC, if you only have usb1.1 (to slow) then get a wireless pci card and install internally.

You would need to purchase a wireless card for it or the simplest thing to do would be to purchase a Netgear or linksys USB wireless adapter. Plug in and it should pick up the wireless network.

You could try to connect the router to your computer through an ethernet port.
