I've always understood it to be 1.6 kilometers equals a mile. And 2.2 pounds equals a kilogram.

Strange the the americans are coming up with this 1.60 number... not suggesting it's wrong but In England, 1 mile is equal to 1.62 kilometres. Unless you are talking about nautical miles. 1 nautical mile is equal to 1.15 statute miles. I will let you convert this to kilometres

However, as to how many significant figuresyou should use, that would depend upon the number of significant figures you are given in your problem. My advice is to use the whole thing, but then round your final answer to the required number of significant figures. That way, you accomplish two things: You get an answer which is correct to the desired degree of accuracy, and you claim only that level of accuracy (more would be misrepresentation).

any way it is one of the things that remembered from maths
