no nu metal/screamo/hardcore/metalcore/or any "core"

A Perfect Circle / Tool
Anthrax ("core" to some extent, but try the 'White Noise' Album, it's pretty good). Thier early stuff is probably too hardcore for what you're looking for, but their more recent stuff is really good.
Judas Priest (lots of clean vocals)

steve vai....his music is pretty much amazing. there are hardly any words really, but is one of the greatest guitarist ever. check out these songs. Tender Surrender, bad horsie, for the love of god. Those are his big songs......hope i help. it says hes metal, but i really dont think he is. ENJOY!
