well by 'contributed' i mean, just about anything. Could be politics or science and definitely nobel proze winners.

Definitely M.K.Gandhiji showed to the whole world the extra ordinary fact that a mighty and haughty ruler can be evicted by non violent means.. He dared to mix ethics of high order (call it spiritual if you like) in the day to day affairs of politics... shunning all ostentation...

Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics (1983) for his work on the gravitational collapse of stars. He was also a fellow of the Royal Society and received their Royal Medal in 1984.
