They work if you have enough people - because everybody will move it just a teensy bit, and maybe one person will secretly consciously guide it. They're silly but they'e fun though when you're 13 :) Cheers!

Ouija is a game based upon our interest/gullibility for the supernatural (Parker Brothers now makes them with "glow in the dark" boards! - see first link).

Though there is claimed to be a mystical history to them (and apparently even "rules" on how to go about talking to the spirit world - see second link) this history is MADE UP. (Though, interestingly, the folks who continue to expound on this history are unaware of this important bit of information countering their claims.)

YES, that's right, William Fuld, the company owner (that made Ouija boards in the late 1800s), CREATED the currently "known" history! (Please read the third link)

Further, there is NO evidence that players can contact anything other than their own imaginations. The supernatural claims made concerning its use are often either exaggerated natural events or just plain mistaken (due, in part, to the preexisting expectations of the users).

Usually the burden of proof lies on the one making the claim... in this case the claim itself lies on Mr. Fuld's creative marketing strategy.

I would be very careful about those. Never ever work one alone. You might call in spirits that you dont want. Ouija boards are like portals into the spirit world. There are good spirits and bad ones but you never want to call upon the bad ones. Another thing you dont want to do is ask the board when you are going to die. Once you own a board its bad luck to get rid of it. I know my sister had one we tossed it away the damn thing came back that is until i burned it. But after that i had some very bad luck happen to me but thats because i believe. Im pagan but i dont practice black magic and i dont own a board i have enough spirits around me to deal with...

A Ouija board is a BOARD GAME. It doesn't do a thing unless someone is PLAYING with it. However, it can be a source of grand amusement to the impressionable.

ouija boards work because the user believes it does. Read "How to think about weird things", page 43. It explains why it's all in the user's head.

Ok years ago we were in a grave yard with one. There was about 15 of us or so and the girls were operating this thing. They were standing over a tombstone and asking all kinds of weird questions. The thing went berserk and was moving all around. People were screaming and running, but come to find out those two girls were actually messing around it really was not working.

Of course they work .... that is, sometimes ..... the same as any other fortune-telling device. When they're right, it's on the same principle as, "Even a blind hog can find an acorn sometimes."
