I am in India. I filed H1 B Visa through a consultant, and got the approval letter from INS. I was employed when I blocked interview date at Mumbai Consulate, some 4 months ago. But I lost my job couple of months ago, and still now can not find another job. My interview date is nearing. But I am unemployed and no salary is credited for the past two months. I request you to clarify whether do I need to be in employment during the Consulate Interview.

Well, you do not theoretically need to be employed but it does make a huge difference in your acceptance/ rejection status.

What you need to do is establish you are credit worthy, meaning u own assets such as house, stocks, cash, land etc. If u are able to provide evidence that u do, that will make up for the job.
