There are some, where weight is a known side effect. It depends what the drug is, and what kind it is. Sometimes too. If you are depressed and on anti depressants, it is common to also have issues with eating, as many people self soothe through food.
Think about it honestly. If you believe you eat a well balanced diet and excersize daily then it may be the meds, but I would not jump to any conclusions until you analyze your eating habits first......google the medication name with side effects (ex:"halodol side effects).
Some actually literally make you crave carbs, thus gaining weight,
but not all of them do.

Perhaps different antidepressant medications affect weight gain. I have been taking Effexor for almost 2 years and have not experienced weight gain. The information that came with the medication mentions weight loss as a possible side affect, but not weight gain.

They very well can. It depends on the antidepressant. My fiance was on an antidepressant for a while a couple of years ago and he gained 60 pounds in two months. As soon as he quit taking it, he lost all the weight.

Yes! They can and of course the marketing released by the drug companies tries to diminish this side effect. Examine your eating and your exercise patterns. If you are eating very healthy, exercising enough and still putting on weight, then you should be talking to your doctor about other therapies. Keep in mind that psychiatrists basically just give out drugs these days. They do not provide much else for mental health care. You may want to look into a psychotherapist, a social worker, clergy person or other source of care.

I personally have never taken antidepresents but i find when i am depressed i tend to eat. Many people are emotional eaters and it may be the medicin isn't working. Or ask your doctor if a side effect of the medicine is weight gain that may be the problem.

I have gained about 30#s in the past 6 months. My appetite definitely increased so the weight is from eating more. I'm committed to getting rid of that starting now.

Yes, but only certain kinds. I had terrible weight gain from Zoloft, some from Effexor. I had none from Lexapro or Wellbutrin or Prozac.
Again, it really depends on the person taking them. You have to test them out to see what works for you.
