To be honest I don't think there is one simple answer to this question.
If you look 20 years in our media, the media only makes big deals out of Muslims as terrorists. There have been a few exceptions, but for the most part the stuff we hear from all comes from the middle east. This is not to say that there aren't just as many non Muslem terrorists, but we don't hear about them.
Once we get that image in our minds Holywood then cements that image in our minds by making all terrorists in movies Muslims.
I don't think that you can really call terrorists Muslims though, as the Muslim religion is one based on peace. Thats like calling the soldiers of the crusades Christians. They called themselves Christians, but they weren't. If they were Christians they wouldn't have picked up swords in the first place.
I think the middle east based terrorist idea was started because it's such a turbulent region. The middle east has been plagued by extremists claiming to fight for a religious cause for thousands of years (much like the rest of the world) but the rest of the world is trying to grow out of that stage of idealism and move toward the greater good of all min kind. Once the morons that keep the middle east in such a turbulent state are removed then the world's mental image of Muslims being terrorists will slowly change.
I'm probably wrong, but oh well.

Well thats what the people want to see.. they associate Terrorist with Muslims.. thats what it going on now. im not saying that ALL muslims are Terrorist (because they are not) but that's what the media has been puttin in peoples minds. go back a couple of decades and you will see that the terrorist were a diferent race. In the nineties the movies were about drug dealers, who wer they protreyed by? Dominicans, Puertoricans, Mexican etc. it all depends on whats going on in the world at the moment. Whats hot and whats not.. its sad really because it feeds the minds of the people and Muslims are hated and looked down on.

Well the majority of terrorists are Muslim. Go figure.
What about other films like the ones listed below. All feature terrorist-like characters but without the long beard and towels.

I guess you don't see many movies. It seems most movies go out of their way to make them NOT Muslims. Last movie I saw a week ago was "Deja Vu" it had a domestic terrorist.
