Choosing a Topic
Choosing a topic is oftentimes the hardest part of writing a paper. Remember, your purpose is to use information you gather to persuade someone to agree with you about something. Do you have a strong opinion about something?
Have you argued with someone about something or read about anything in the news that you either agreed with or disagreed with? List a topic that you have heard people disagree about recently. A last way to think of a topic is to list your favorite things. Choose one and develop it into a research idea. Is thre anything controversial about it? Why do you like it? Why don't other people like it? Once you've chosen your topic, be ready to be flexible. Once you've started researching your topic, you may change your opinion, and that's ok. Sometimes we need to get the facts in order to have a good opinion. But remember, you must really believe in what you're talking about in order to have a good persuasive paper or speech.
