People consider Harry Potter evil because it deals with magic and it is not religious, hence it does not say that worshiping God is good, but it states that dealing with pagan's is great. And, worshiping pagan gods in the bible is one of the ten commandments. Personally, I don't see what is so bad about the book, but I'm not a parent, even then I know plenty of parents who really enjoy the books.

I think people don't take the time to consider the books as serious literature; and many religious persons cast it aside because they think the magic in the stories goes against the Bible. In fact, the magic in Harry Potter is not the same kind the Christian Bible forbids.
There are two types of magic (as depicted in Fantasy literature) - invocational and incantational. Incantational magic is merely cause and effect - a person says a spell, waves a wand, etc. and something happens. There's no contact with beings in the supernatural realm, for good or evil. This kind of magic is found, not just in Harry Potter, but in other Fantasy works (such as The Chronicles of Narnia or even Star Wars for that matter [i.e. the Force]). In contrast, invocational magic involves the actual communion with supernatural beings; and it is this type of magic the Christian Bible forbids.
Instead, I actually think the Harry Potter books are about spiritual warfare, not about encouraging kids to enter the occult.

Because they just don't get it. I think it scares people because it is so realisticly written that they start thinking they are being brainwashed into wanting to learn about magic and witchcraft which is wrong to them. In actuality they are just forgetting it is good FICTION and not something really happening. I think....It's hard to tell why super religious people do anything. They're a little goofy and easily frightened at times I guess.
I too am a Christian, but I also like a well written story and don't let it bother me that the characters are witches and wizards. I do know fiction from non-fiction. What boggles me is the same people who hate Harry Potter-love Lord of the rings and Willow. HELLO???? Why then are those stories okay to them? That's the same type of thing as Harry Potter is.

Because they are bein so stupid and won't OPEN THEIR EYES!!! Magic is considered evil in Catholicism and it comes from the devil so they think that JK Rowling is tryin to teach children evil. I'm a devote Catholic but I ADORE the harry potter books. My mother doesnt approve because the catholic church has condemned harry potter but the books entertain people and have gotten kids into reading so how can they be bad??
If anything they could look at the religious side of harry potter....the fight between good and evil....harry vs. voldemort.
Well thats how I see things anyway!!

Because its all about MONEY and politics. That's a lot of royalties being paid and sent out of the USA. It cant really be about witchcraft and magic because apart from bible stories most children's books and movies have magic or fantasy in it. Especially from Disney. From Snow White to the Lion King (Rafiki was a witch doctor) Oh some would say but they are animation. What about Hocus Pocus, Twitches, Teen witch, Teen wolf, The peanut butter solution, Matilda, Pipi Longstockings and that's just to name a few.

The sermon in church this past Sunday was on this very subject. Because the book depicts witchcraft, and not Christianity, we are supposed to take these books out of schools, and out of our children's hands, and not allow them to be read. As usual, they've gone overboard. What is wrong with reading fantasy novels? Is the book trying to convert all these kids into practicing withcraft??? NO. It's providing them with an interesting and entertaining story, and an alternative to sitting in front of a t.v. or playing video games.

They are considered evil because some people are idiots. They refuse to read the books for themselves and form their own opinions, instead they listen to what others say and follow them blindly like blockheads.
