You need to re-read Lemar's answer, then put it in a textbook. I would add that the calculation for gas mileage is the number miles driven since the last refueling, divided by the number of gallons it took to fill the fuel tank. Example: 300 miles / 10 gallons = 30 miles per gallon (the mileage). Accuracy in mileage measurement can only occur after many fill-ups.

Gas mileage is a measurement of how many miles a vehicle can be expected to travel on a gallon of gasoline. It can also be an an actual measurement of miles travelled on a gallon of gasoline.

Gas mileage can be evaluated for 3 types of driving conditions: City, Highway, and MIxed.

The EPA offers estimates for nearly every new vehicle sold on how many miles per gallon, or MPG, a vehicle should experience in City, or stop and go, traffic. It also offers estimates based on Highway, or constant speed, driving.

Most people will experience Mixed, or actual driving that includes both city and highway type driving. Mixed mpg estimates are usually based on actual experience as opposed to EPA estimates.

Good and bad gas mileage is as relative as good or bad pizza or Coke or Pepsi. Bad gas mileage is considered anything less than 15mpg mixed and good gas mileage is anything more than 25 mpg mixed.

Hope this helps.
