That depends on where you were in the world!
To the Native Americans it would have been a different point of reference than to the Ancient Romans.
56 BC would have been year 2 of the Consulship of Quintus Caecilius Metellus Nepos in Rome.

I would simply be that day. or "Today". Time nor calanders were still not in use. People used the stars to get an idea of thingslike harvest, spring, etc.
Generally, that would depend on where you were. Since Rome ruled most of the world, with each Ceasar or Emperor years were counted from the beginning of their reign. The Year 56 Ceasar Agustus would be equal to 56BC by our standards. However if in Greece....It may have been the year 3 Ptolemy XV Caesar
The Romans borrowed parts of their earliest known calendar from the Greeks. The calendar consisted of 10 months in a year of 304 days. The Romans seem to have ignored the remaining 61 days, which fell in the middle of winter. The 10 months were named Martius, Aprilis, Maius, Junius, Quintilis, Sextilis, September, October, November, and December. The last six names were taken from the words for five, six, seven, eight, nine, and ten. Romulus, the legendary first ruler of Rome, is supposed to have introduced this calendar in the 700's B.C.E. W

Years were usually calculated from the start of whatever monarch happened to be in charge. I would assume it would be in the 23rd year of the reign of Caesar Tiberius, or whoever.

who is them?? in the Jewish calendar, it would be year 3703
especially at that point in time, different cultures had different calendars, and it was not until well into the "modern" era that we had a "universal" date to use, in order to know when we were talking about.
