A 40-60 split. This way you understand who you are and what you're going through, but you also see the potential of what you could accomplish, or the darkness of the hole you may fall in. With this vision, you can put yourself on the right path for the better life that we all seek.

You need to be able to see yourself the way you are and if there is anything you want to try to change then go for it and that is the way you could be.

First you need to see and accept your current condition. Until you do that, you don't really know what needs to be done to get to where you could be. Both are important, but the sequence requires that one come first.
It's like following directions. There has to be a realistic starting point in order to set a course to any new destination and be successful.

well, I'd say to see yourself the way you ARE. I mean, NO ONE knows when our lives will be cut short. You may never have the chance to be "who you wish you could be/or want to be".
I mean, I know it's good to have an opptimistic outlook, and always try to achieve things and be ambitious, BUT, why not spend that time working on yourself and your happiness right now, instead of happiness you "could" have.

recently a group of psychologists concluded a multi year study. Here is what amazed them.
Most people believe they are better looking, smarter, and more popular than they really are. Over half believed they were better than average looking. So, quite obviously, in this particular control group, they did not see themselves the way they really are. I do think it is almost impossible to look at yourself objectively.
