They can live off the fluorescent lights and plants don't need water available constantly. They store it.

You have the right species of plants that require cooler conditions (or can adapt to it) and flourish in fluorescent lighting. However, if they are green and lush, they are also growing and will require repotting once a year to replenish the soil, or at least trim back the roots.

It's also possible these green, lush *plants* are very good artificial silk replicas. It's easy to think some of these are real until you actually touch the leaves!
