I saw it a few years ago in film school and wrote a paper on it.

It's not a movie I would pick out to sit at home and watch for relaxation purposes, but as a former film student can apprieciate the way it's filmed. Most critics and books about film list it as a "must-see."

I liked the way it was shot: some beautiful scenery and a quasi-documentary style. it kind of goes hand in hand with Apocalypse Now (and others) in the "travelling down the jungle river" as a metaphor for a decent into madness. I think the film has one of the best opening scenes in a film. Klaus Kinski is good as Aguirre. It's a bit brutal and bloody for me though.

I don't think I would watch it again, but I would recommend people watching it once, especially if they are film buffs or film students.

Yes, I saw Aguirre, Wrath of God (1972) in a movie theatre years ago. I still remember certain scenes from it now. This is because of the potent combination of director Werner Herzog and main actor Klaus Kinski. "A story of power and madness" as a group of Spanish conquistadores disappear while searching for 'El Dorado.'
