Antaractica is a continent, and not owned by any one nation. Much like the moon, just because America got there first does not make America the owner of the moon. THe international Sovreignity treaty that governs claims to the moon and other solar bodies is also the basis for the carving up of our frozen continent.

Excellent question. Considering in about 20 years it'll be inhabitable due to global warming, it might be a good idea to buy land there now.
