I had the same problem, very frustrating. The only way that I have found to fix this is I had to restore my computer to factory settings. I own a Dell. To do this on a Dell, when you restart your computer, upon start up you hit Ctrl+F11. If you decide to do this, make sure you save all files that you don't want lost (ie. pictures, projects, etc.) Burn them onto a cd or floppy disk. You will loose everything that wasn't preinstalled on your computer. After you get your computer set back up. I would install several clean up programs. The ones I run are Advanced Windows Care v2 (free download) Ad-aware se (also free), Registry Mechanic ( about $30) and Ashampoo Platinum (free trial for 30-40 days). Also get a good anti-virus. (I run AVG free) Run these programs a few times a day until the problem deminishes. I barely ever run into blue screen failures now. It seems like a lot of work, but it's worth it and it's cheaper than a new hard drive or a new computer.

Whenever Blue Screen/Fatal Error Occurs Try & Watch the Following Points:-
- Is it happening wid any perticular function or perticular program. That means corrupted program file reinstalling application is the best option>
If still continued, try to complete uninstall it from Add-Remove Programs in Control Panel & Reinstall it.
If it is happening wid many application whenever perticular hardware access is done that means der id driver or other windows related problem. Try to correct this by CHKDSK / R from command prompt. And SFC /Scannow & insert the OS Disk. Wait & Keep patience.
If it is happening randomly any time wid any application That means der is hardware memory failure. Be sure is your system overheated ( If so it occurs after perticular time duration). Check the temperature of system in BIOS.
Next chance...In CMOS Setup in Advance Setup Disable Video BIOS Shadowing & System BIOS Shadowing.
If all is OK & Well replace the RAM Module if your RAM is nt from Reliable Source or Company it is good to check it first.
Hope u wil solv it. Otherwise mail me with all system details
Enjoy Techs...!!

Sounds like you have a device conflict or some hardware device is failing on the computer. My advice is to start removing every card in an expansion slot one by one booting each time to see if you can discover which part is causing you the problem. It could also be a memory issue. If you still have the problem with minimal hardware, you might have a defective motherboard. Good luck.

Are you using a laptop? It could be that your system might be overheating, try going to your BIOS setup, then try checking the temperature reading there. If it's way beyond its expected heat load, I suggest that you get a new fan, or an external laptop cooler pad, which you could get from radio shack.
If you need to reinstall Windows XP, try repartitioning your drive c then install it.

Just swap the RAM into a different slot after switching off your PC. you will get two RAM slots when you will open your box.restart it and check if it is again problematic. if problem is coming again then switch off your system and again replace the RAM into the previous slot.restart and check again. if it is not worth. throw your RAM and get a new one.
