I'm thinking society is killing good music. the producers would not produce the music we're hearing today unless the sheep didn't go out and buy it. maybe it's mtv, maybe it's the media culture, i'm not sure exactly what the reason is, but the bottom line is that for some god-awful reason, people buy those cds.

we can only hope that we'll have another "revolution" like we did at the end of the 80's beginning of the 90's when all the overproduced "music" was pushed aside by real music by real bands who played real instruments. until then, i'm not buying any more cds.

My thoughts exactly.

American music tends to work in fads. It's gone from boy bands, to rap, and now this emo / pop bs is starting to take over and it's sick. I wish we could pull our heads out of our asses, stop thinking about the money, and go back to making real music, like the likes of Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Rush, Black Sabbath, etc... not this manufactured where the person with the highest salary and highest sales wins and gets to become famous. Forget that! The older artists (50's thru dare I say 80's) are gonna live forever, because that was a time where music was music and actually meant something, and nobody will ever forget it. 30 years from now who is going to remember Paris Hilton? Ashlee Simpson? Jessica Simpson? Britney Spears? Nobody, and if they do it's just for how retarded they were. Zeppelin was big in the 70's and they're STILL being praised by not only younger and older indivuduals, but also bassists, drummers, vocalists, and moreover guitar players, because their music was legendary. And the people around here wonder why I listen to foreign metal, and underground American stuff...

There is nothing to be concerned with. Every generation has their one hit wonder or industry created supported and developed artists. Just look back at any decade and you will see them. Likewise, you will also see serious artists. The funny thing is, usually the serious artist, one who writes and plays their own music last longer. Look at the 80's. Where is Tiffany now? In a girlie magazine trying to resurrect a career? Where are the Police? They disbanded, but Sting is a commercial success, and the other members are still in the business in other less noticable roles like producers. Pop icons will always be around, they come and go. Heck, Celine Dion has been banished to Vegas! Keep supporting the true artists and they will remain.

OMG, YES YES YES, crap is what we are being fed, and this terrible show "America Idol" is as much to blame. People are so music poor that they feel all someone has to do is sing to be called a musician. Don't get me wrong, singing is a wonderful talent, difficult, and should be praised, but so few do any more then sing. Where are the true musicians? where are the Mozart's who wrote entire opera's without making a single correction to his original? where are they? Who are the artist who not only sing front but play every instrument in the band too? Who write and sing their own songs? I get tired of being told what is "good" and what i "should" like.

It's not killing music per say. But it is sucking the life, creativity and originality out of music.

All music now is generated to be a hit. It has to be number one. And if it doesn't go to number one, chances are you'll never hear from the artist again.

While this may be good from a consumer / retail perspective, it really does seem to kill the artistry of being an artist.

Yes, most definitely. The record companies seem only to put out music by disposable artists with no talent in hopes of earning a quick buck. Unfortuantely the talented artists, more often than not, get lumped in with the artists with no talent and are disposed of just as quickly.

Yes, but this has always been the case, even back when I as a kid in the 1970s. The best music is always what is NOT being played on the radio. But the "trendy pop culture" that drives radio play isn't about quality. It is about hype.

I hope good music doesn't die.
Every single band I listen to, they write their own music and play instruments. and about American Idol, I don't know what standard the people have to fit, but it sucks.
They all end up singing pop.
I can't stand that!
and I even listen to bands where the people actually sing, too.
but pop makes me want to throw up

YES!! I agree, although I have to say that American Idol discovered a true talent in Elliott Yamin. One of the few things they've done right.
