My grandfather looked really peaceful when he died. He was probably looking forward to it because he was in too much pain during his last years alive.

When my mom was dying she was reaching her arms to the sky and smiling. She was reaching for someone! It was amazing, and beautiful. I think her final thoughts were, Im going home.

Totally depends on their worldview and the point in life that they are dying.

(1) Faith that they will not cease to exist after death:

"My time has come" (completion of life)

"Nooooo!!!! not yet! I'm not ready yet!!! There's more I want to see and do! I haven't completed everything I wanted to! What about my loved ones?! What about all the toys I have? the toys I haven't gotten yet?" (perception that their life is not completed yet)

"Good-bye cruel world! I'm going somewhere better!" (doesn't like this existance)

(2) Believe that they will cease to exist:

"Death is inevitable" (acceptance)

"I don't wanna die!!!" (fear of death)

"Ah, just make it end!" (can't handle it anymore)

"Good-bye cruel world!" (doesn't like this existance)

(3) Endless number of combinations and possibilities :-)

Depends on the circumstances but I doubt they are thinking about all the material crap they bought in their lifetime or how much money they have........

I believe that their good memories parade before their mind, for people that die carry with them only their memories.
