i would wash them every other month in hot water. even though no one has slept there the linens can still have dust mites. dust mites can make you very sick if you are allergic to them.
if someone is going to be sleeping there, than i would go ahead and wash them so that they are fresh.

We too have a spare bed, but I don't put sheets on until someone will be using it. I just have the comforter on the bed and have it that way until we will be having guests, then I put sheets on the bed. It's always fresh that way! Why have sheets on a bed that isn't being used?

Hi i loved wot u said about the fish wow i laughed. Hope you weren't ill tho.
Changing your bed clothes would be best done fortnightly even tho no-one has slept in it it still attracts dust mites and dirt within the air.

I change mine every month. Even though no one sleeps in my spare room, dust mites still breed. And I always change it after someone has slept in it.

I wouldn't put anything on it at all except a comforter for protecting the mattress. Then, when someone comes over to sleep, go ahead and put the sheets etc on. This way they are always fresh when you need them.

I would wash the bedding just before or after someone stays. Does it really get that dirty otherwise? However, if you don't have people stay for ten years I think I would wash it!

i think it depends on how often someone is sleeping on the spare bed, you of course want to change it whenever there is someone new who will be sleeping on it and then also whenever it smells musty or if it looks dirty

Definitely before and after someone's gonna be sleeping in it.
I'd probably do it once a month in between people using it
