Depends on how intervention happy the caregiver is. A midwife might not want to do a cervical check but a doctor probably would ask to do one.

Yes they do examine you. Sometimes the patient might be having contractions and not even feeling it. When the doctor start monitering the patient they would see the rythm of the contraction. Sometimes patient stay home for more than 24 hours contracting and if they start dilating they come to the hospital (maternity department), then the nurse start monitering them for example the monitor is a machine that control the heart beat of the mother and the baby. The doctor is also controling how dilated the patient is and make sure that blood pressure, heart rate of both mother and baby is normal and stable. Patient can be on the monitor for hours and hours before they are fully dilated or their water broke.

You have to wait until they are 5 minutes appart then call the hospital and let them know you are coming. Then when you get there you have to go to admitting and they'll make sure your paperwork is in order (preregistration is good for this, shortens the time).

Then you go to the maternity area, where they take you back to a room where they examin you to make sure you are progressing. If you are progressing to a pace that reflects you are really in labor (not false) they will check you into a room. Then you labor in there with nurses checking your vitals ect (you are hooked up to a machine that tracks your contractions too) when it's time to push they walk you through it and when the baby looks like it will come, the doctor comes in to help with the final delievery.

If you go into the hospital for contractions they will hook you up to monitors first (to check contractions and fetal heart rate to check for distress) and then your doctor will be called to check your cervix for dilation. Good Luck!!

It depends on how far apart your contractions are.

Once they're about a minute or two apart, they'll check and see how far dilated your cervix is.
