A deaf person has 4 other senses through which they can measure their external environment.
Touch = Measures things like: Softness, Hardness, Temperature, etc..
Smell = Measures things like: Odors & Tastes
Sight = Distance, Depth, Direction, Qualities of persons expressions
Taste = Combinations of Bitterness & Sweetness
Sound = Distance, Direction, Harmony, Detection
For those of us with all 5 senses, we SERIOUSLY take for granted how these senses shape our perception and understanding of the world and how these senses help us survive from day-to-day.
Deaf persons can understand things through the 4 senses available to them, just as those with 5 can.
Hope that helps.

Most people who are deaf can communicate in sign language. Also those who have been deaf for a while, but not their whole lives, can read lips and respond to what they think you said if you cant speak sign language.

We read lips. Just because I can't hear doesn't mean I am blind.
