The morning after pill will not cause an abortion. It will not do anything if the egg is already implanted in your uterus. It simply prevents implantation.

I did not suffer any painful or immediate side effects from the morning after pill when I had to take it once. My period did come a couple of days early, but it was normal length-wise and with how heavy it was. It was just as I expected it to be.

You might experience some side effects from the hormone changes, etc. I gained a little weight and my breasts got bigger, but that happens with the regular BC pill as well. If you do anything that messes with your hormones, you could have changes like that.

I always have bad cramps with my period. I did not notice if they were worse than normal when I took emergency contraception (the morning after pill). However, I did "spot" a couple days before my actual period came. That means, I bled a little, but it wasn't my period yet. I had never done that before, but I did when I took emergency contraception. Two days later, I had a regular menstrual flow.

Hope that helps.

Sorry to say that I had a really horrible experience on the morning after pill. I don't agree that this is abortion though as this pill works to bring on your period before any egg (if there even is one) has been fertilized. So, some sperm swimming around trying to find an egg that may or may not be there yet, to me, doesn't qualify as abortion.

About the symptoms...I didn't just cramp (cramping was the least of my worries). I got really swollen and tender all over my body and my breasts particularly (like you do before your period, only 5 times as bad). I vomited every 2 minutes for a couple of hours, eventually turning into dry heaves. The vomiting became less and less regular throughout the day though. I had a huge headache as well, probably from dehydration. And I did end up bleeding, but the blood was thick.

I later went on the pill (birth control) and got similar symptoms, but far less intense. If you have ever taken the pill, then the symptoms for the morning after pill might not be as severe as mine were. Also, severity depends on each individual. It would seem as if I have a very low tolerance, but I'm probably a good example of what can happen on the extreme end.
