With one eye open

Octopus appear to sleep, if only lightly. The retina seems to close up, and sometimes the skin around the eye contracts. There is also a change in colour pattern, normally go pale. They are awaken by movement, or the chance of being fed.

Have you never been to an aquarium and watched them, they curl up into a lazy ball and sleep. Then being the lazy animal that they are, will eat on of there tentacles off instead of going and forage for food.
octopus is plural, octopi is singular.
