When babies are still in the womb, and also for a while after birth, they have lots of hormones running through their systems. This causes their genitals to be enlarged, so sometimes on an ultrasound you really can't tell which is which. A little girl may actually look like she has a scrotum. If your baby is a girl, that's why they didn't see a penis, or it could also be a boy and the position of the baby made it hard to see his penis. So basically, that's why the doctor isn't sure. An ultrasound isn't really the best way of knowing a baby's gender for sure. The only sure way is to have an amnio, but that carries a risk of infection or premature labor, so your doctor won't want to do that unless there's a really good reason. I know you're excited to know the sex of your baby and probably want to get started planning your nursery, but it's also fun to be surprised. Good luck to you, and congratulations!

Well, you might just have to be surprised when your baby comes. That isn't the worst thing! We are choosing not to find out the sex of our baby. I think it will just add to the excitement. Pick out names for both a boy and a girl, and buy lots of yellow and green. You can buy a pink AND a blue outfit so that you can properly dress your new one when you take them home. Good Luck!
Remember, that ultrasounds aren't always 100% anyway!

Seems like your little sweetie pie wants to surprize you on his or her birthday.
You have some idea so thats always nice and yes it happen to me twice. And i am in my fourth pregancy now. There is nothing like hearing the doctor announce what it is.
If you havent ever tried the ring test it usually works
tie a ring on a string and let it dangle if it goes horzintally its a boy vertically its a girl. It never has failed for me. It will even tell you what your furture babies will be. Good luck and enjoy your pregancy.

They are never a 100% accurate I was told I was having a boy and it was a girl I guess they were seeing the umbellical cord inbetween. So always have a back up plan! The hardest thing was the name for me

I think you should wait a few weeks and go back for another ultrasound. Sometimes the baby just won't open up it's legs to give the doc a good enough view to be sure.

I d say go with your gut, I did and I have two boys,I knew they were boys I just felt it. I wouldn't go by that 100% but still think about it. Go back and have another US done and see what they say it's probably a girl.

it is never certain on those tests. I'd wait till your little one comes out and introdces itself to you before you go assuming it is a girl. my friend was told she was having a girl and after her babys room was done in pink and purple with her name painted on the wall it all had to be changed to blue and green as she came out as a boy. : (

i know plenty of people who were told they were having a boy or girl and got something different! as good as ultrasound is, it just isn't perfect for seeing that kind of detail..just be patient and good luck with which ever you have
