Is biological evolution of mankind continuing?

Question

As far as i know all homo sapiens came from africa. Since then we have this great diversity in characteristics like faces, skin color etc
If we move a population from Sweden to central Africa and one from c. Africa to Sweden. Will the two populations change (skin color, anatomy etc) lets say in a few or many generations or even in 50.000 years (wich if i'm not wrong is the time that homo sapiens excists)?

Nope. Evolution relies on natural selection. Natural selection dictates that less fit individuals are removed from the population and do not reproduce, while more fit individuals will reproduce faster and come to dominate the genetic makeup of future generations.

In humans, there is no more natural selection because nearly all humans reach reproductive age, and there is no selection for more fit individuals. Hence no forces driving evolution.

Yes. The human species is still evolving.

Homo sapiens has been around about 150,000 to 200,000 years ... but that is still an *extremely* short time in evolutionary terms. IF we were to be truly geographically isolated for several times that length of time, the diversity represented by the "races" (a word that has no real biological meaning) would get more pronounced in future generations ... and might eventually have led to different subspecies and different species.

But they are not geographically isolated. And in fact they never have been ... in the relatively "short" (in geological terms) time that we have been here, humans have always been interbreeding between neighboring populations.

The future trend will be even *less* geographical isolation (more interbreeding), so we will probably see less and less diversity along geographical lines. I.e. the "races" will probably get diluted throughout the genome.

When you move a population from N. Europe to Africa (as happened, for example, with the Dutch in S. Africa) or vice versa, yes they would probably change in response to the different environment over the course of 50,000 to 100,000 years. E.g. the ability to produce more or less melanin and therefore darker or lighter skin, is in all of our genomes ... so slowly those darker individuals might be selected for. However, this ignores the effects of technology (like sunscreen and Vitamin D supplements) that neutralizes the advantages or disadvantages that originally led to different skin color. And it also ignores the fact that human populations rarely remain completely genetically isolated ... i.e. what would affect future generations is not so much environment, but infusion with genes through interbreeding with the already indigenous population. Humans will be humans ... we like the breeding part.

Humans may not be evolving any more for two reasons. The first is that there is no longer isolation of small groups, which is neccesary for evolution. The second, more important, reason is that there is no longer a survival of the fittest effect occuring. Nature no longer selects us, we select nature. We do not evolve fur for cold climates, we just invent heated houses. The amount of reproduction is highest in the countries with the lowest GDP, and it is hard to argue that countries with the lowest GDP are the most fit. If anything they are equally fit.

U have been mislead. homo sapiens did not only come from Africa. Neanderthals use to particapte in the early Roman Olympics (fact). Another fact Man is several inches taller than they were in the 1800's. Hope this helped U.

and as far as I can tell not all of humaity came from the rift valley in Africa.
it is just that the science has not as yet found any fosels in othere colder weter areas.
