I will be finishing my first year at university in summer. I was just wondering if you can take a gap year for your second year? And when i go back do i have to start as a first year again because i took a year out? or will i continue into the second year of the course?

As long as you have all the credits needed to go onto the next year, you should be able to do that no problem. I did it to work and try and get rid of a bit of debt! lol You would need to speak to your tutors and ok it with them all first - you don't want to coem back and find you have been dropped from your course! Also, a drawback of taking a gap year during your course is that you may never come back!

Also, some universities have exchange programmes where you can study your course for 6-12 months at another university in the world. You should discuss this with your tutor and see if your university does this.

If you take a gap year you can go onto the second year after you return as long as you'v passed the previous year.........personally i would'nt recomend it, it can be difficult getting back into the swing of things after such a break & change of lifestyle

Yes usually you can but it all depends on which university you go to and on the university rules, but if you pass the year and have a valid reason then there should be no reason why they'd say no. Afterall you are a paying customer.
Check with the university and arrange an appointment with your course leader.

You will continue into the second year. As long as you have the minimum required credits to be a sophmore. Just know that if you transfer to another school for your second year all the credits from your old school may not be valid. This may cause you to have freshman status. It is all about the number of credits you have.

You might need to request a leave of absence from your university in order to continue in the program upon your return.
