Are you referring to this generation or ones in the past? That has always been a sore spot between the north and the south. Its a good thing however that some things change. Slavery in any nation or culture is wrong and should have never been put into place. Whats really bad is that because of others in the past it gives the southern states a bad reputation because not all southerners feel the way some do. All it does is cause problems. I feel im a slave to my job lol because it just feels that way but i know myself personally i would have ran away if i had been a slave or die trying. Honestly those people back then were stupid. I would say something about the religious crusades and how many people they all killed in the name of god but i wont go there for now....I dont think i would want to worship a god that would promote slavery or killing in any form. Enough said...

Assuming you mean back just before the Civil War, in the 1840's & 1850's.... Both the Northerners and Southerners felt the time of slavery had come to pass. Many (not all) Southerners planned to free their slaves when their time on Earth was over. Some Southerners were already freeing their slaves.

The issue was the North trying to TELL the South what to do and when to do it.

Slavery would have died a natural death in time. It never got that chance.

well, the black people probably didnt think much good of it in the north or south, most whites in the south couldnt afford slaves, most whites in the north didnt need them, but as for how they felt morally, probably many didnt think about it, it was legal, it had been legal, and people back then werent as coddled as now. White indentured servants were basically slaves, with almost as few rights as black slaves, but they didnt have the overt classification as less than human. Slavery has been around for ever, but the way they justified it in the south, maybe it meant they felt guilty about it.

Well remember they weren't "old" at the time, so how did people feel about slavery in the "old days"? I guess some were for it and some were against it, just like political stuff these days. But the interesting thing is we could never have built America without slave labor - could never afford it! Just like how the railroad could not have been built across conutry without cheap, virtually slave Chiense labor. Can you imagine trying to like build Hoover dam today at union labor rates?

The south felt that slavery was okay and was not wrong but the north felt that slavery was morally wrong and they did not like the whole idea of slavery.
