They gave him a standing ovation, which, in my opinion, made the Democrat broughhaha over ethics reform ring a little hollow and sound hypocritical. Who believes that Rep. Jefferson would have had a snowball's chance of even staying in Congress if he was a Republican? (let alone getting re-elected for another term). Democrats: take the beam out of your own eye before you start complaining about the splinter in the Republican's eye!

I am cheered by your answers. For a while I thot I was the only one who felt a little indignant over this distressing matter.

Just because he's been caught red-handed in a bribery scandal doesn't mean he's unethical. Goodness, he's a Democrat, and anything goes for them.
Can anybody think of the last time any Dem did anything to another Dem because of their criminal, unethical or immoral behavior? Has any Dem leader been removed from a leadership role? Has any Dem resigned because of their criminal, unethical or immoral behavior? Has any Dem been forced to resign by their party for such behavior?
The last one I can think of is Gary Hart when he withdrew from the presidential nomination race when he got caught bopping chicks on his yacht. That was 20 years ago, and today he thinks it was a mistake to have withdrawn.
Can anybody honestly say the Dems place any value on integrity, morality or ethics?

This is another example of how democrats have a double standard in politics. They are very critical of Mark Foley, Bush, DeLay, etc. and as Nancy Pelosi says the Republican "culture of corruption." However when ever one of their own is caught in turmoil, they rally the troops behind them.
Maybe they will send Jefferson to the Democrat reform school so that he can learn how to become more ethical.

I agree with you. If a republican is under investigation the democrats demand they step down. If a democrat is under investigation they stand up in ovation. Hypocritical at the least.

His bribery is an open and shut case, so he should have been impeached by now if his own constituents did not have the sense to vote against him. That is the biggest indictment of parts of our society... that people would make a deliberate choice to reelect him, but vote out a good man like Sen. Jim Talent. (R-MO)

The evidence against him is pretty convincing yet he lingers on. It's funny how the Democrats remain strangely silent when this comes up.

It is not a DEM thing it is a racial thing...if he were white...how many would have cheered him.
