It's alive and kicking... but still struggling as always. Racism is alive and well, but there are still a lot of really great people out there fighting for equality for everyone.

Not hardly! Take a good look around, a real look, we have laws that claim to it being illegal for any "public" institution of learning- meaning it is governmentally funded- to only allow students of one particular ethnicity to attend, however we have all african american public universities. Also in the university settings, there are many student groups such as MECCHA- for the hispanic, mexican, latino etc.- there are groups for the american indian group, the african american group, however there has been controversy at ASU when a group of students wanted to start a caucasion group- people questioning their motives, thinking it was just a racist idea- why? People have "brown pride", "black pride" etc. blasted on their vehicles, however it is considered racist for a white person to have "white pride"- why?
There are many other examples to show that racial equality is far from being in existence.

It is alive, but so is racial inequality. I've been working at a staffing agency for a while now, so I've been thrown into a world I didn't FULLY understand until now. Companies will call us and ask for latino's "because you can work, work, work them and they never complain" (yes, I've actually been told this!). They'll ask for asians because "they learn things faster". They'll specify only caucasians because "they don't want to create any unpleasant situations." They'll ask us right out not to send any African Americans, "only people who can get the work done". Ofcourse, my company does NOT tolerate or accept companies like this, but it still shames me that this is reality.

I agree with sixyj I asked a question similar the other day and only got flamed... but why is it that it is ok to be proud if your a "minority" ( african american, hispanic ) but if your white and proud your automatically a racist ?
Wasn't there a big hooplah about a white only scholarship a few years ago ? it was just some kid who took some donations, and wanted papers from white kids to ask why they were proud to be white... and it caused a whole bunch of trouble. Well if this is so bad who was the last white kid to get a scholarship from the NAACP.. because a "mind is a terrible thing to waste" or does that not count if your poor and white.

there will never be racial equality in a capitalist society, someone has to be the victim for capitalism to work.
